Welcome to YOUR local Toys for Tots campaign!

Since 1947, Toys for Tots has distributed 708 million toys to 314 million children. We are super delighted to play even a very a small role in the making of so many magical moments!

With our recent (and proposed) expansions, we want to reflect the enormous generosity of the entire region by changing our name from Charlottesville (where it all began for us) to Shenandoah Regional. Shenandoah is a Native American name, primarily meaning ‘daughter of the stars,’ or ‘beautiful daughter of the stars.’ It is derived from Algonquian words that describe the stars reflecting on a massive, ancient mountain lake that once existed in this region. Once considered the most beautiful place on Earth, Native people who lived near those shores in early times would frequently climb the mountains at night, look down at the mirrored lake, and watch the heavens perfectly reflected in its clear, quiet waters. Much the same can be said of the love reflected in the big, generous hearts of so many Virginians living in communities across our ‘local’ region today. Because our area of responsibility is so large (Connecticut is smaller), some communities have asked whether toys collected from their county will ‘stay local,’ thinking their toys will go to Charlottesville and stay there. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The magic that happens in Charlottesville (where our operations are centered) helps all of us work together to deliver hope to kids in every corner of our very large, beloved community at Christmastime and beyond!

Presently, the Shenandoah Regional campaign covers almost 6,000 square miles. The proposed inclusion of six additional counties (Amelia, Brunswick, Cumberland, Goochland, Powhatan, and Rockingham) helps us fill critical coverage gaps among our neighboring Virginia communities, connects us directly to Quantico, Richmond, and Lynchburg AORs, and brings our total area of responsibility to just over 8,300 square miles. Geographically, Shenandoah Regional runs diagonally from West Virginia to North Carolina and encompasses the following 4 cities and 18 counties:

Albemarle County
Amelia County (proposed)
Augusta County
Brunswick County (proposed)
Buckingham County
Charlotte County
Charlottesville
Cumberland County (proposed)
Fluvanna County
Goochland County (proposed)
Greene County
Harrisonburg
Louisa County
Lunenburg County
Madison County
Nelson County
Nottoway County
Powhatan County (proposed)
Prince Edward County/Farmville
